Sound and picture quality on these discs is OK. Looks like the same film prints as the Brentwood Home Video DVDs (reviewed on Page 2), but the picture seems grainier. At least there are no major scratches on the film as seen on some other discs. Every episode is complete and uncut and the original theme music is used on every show. Unfortunately, a major drawback is the use of the Platinum Disc Corporation logo shown on the bottom right corner of the screen throughout each episode. Very annoying! Also, the "Show Info" text section is exactly the same as the Brentwood release. I was, however, impressed by the amount of episode information listed the back of each disc cover. Not only is there a nice synopsis, but co-star and first airdate info as well.

This DVD uses the same prints of the shows seen on Volume 1 of the Delta Entertainment/ Laserlight disc (shown on Reviews Page 1). In fact, the translucent DELTA logo can be seen in the bottom right hand corner of the screen on each episode. The sound is good, but the picture is a bit too light somtimes. Each episode is uncut and the opening/ closing theme music is used, although not the original recording.

The video and sound quality are pretty decent on these discs, however, English Valet and Big House have noticable scratches on the film prints. All of the episodes are uncut, but only four contain the original recording of the theme music. The others have a re-recording of the song. The Show Info, Cast Biographies, and Fact & Trivia section were a nice addition and are the same on both discs. The Photo Galleries were basically still frames from the episodes on each disc. If you can't find the DVD set made by Brentwood Home Video, this disc set is an excellent second choice. |

Video quality is decent, but not the best. There is a scratch on the film throughout a few minutes of The Big House. Audio is good. All of the episodes are complete and uncut. Now, for the unusual details... The first three episodes use the same prints as the LaserLight/ Delta DVD. Their logo can be seen in the bottom right corner of the screen during portions of these episodes. The opening credits feature a re-recording of the "Fishin' Hole" tune. The last three episodes do not have the logo and do not use the "Fishin' Hole" tune. In fact, there is no music at all! Just silence under the credits both at the beginning and the end. Strange.

Excellent audio and video quality for these uncut episodes and the original theme music is included. Bright and crisp, I would say the picture looks slightly better than the Brentwood DVDs. Hopefully, Falcon Picture Group will release more episodes of this quality. This set is an excellent choice especially if you enjoy The Beverly Hillbillies as well. |

First off, the overall quality of these episodes is very good. The original theme music is used in all but one show where a re-recording of the same tune is heard. Scratches on the film prints are minimal and there are no annoying logos on the screen to distract you. Now for a few caveats: This is not a "2-pack" per se, but a DOUBLE SIDED disc. Also, the Andy Discovers America and Andy's English Valet episodes are missing, but replaced by two other episodes; The Darlings are Coming and The Loaded Goat. This seems to be a packaging error because the actual DVD menu reflects the proper episodes. As long as you're aware of these things, this turns out to be one of the better DVDs available.

This set is just a repackaging of the first two volumes from Platinum Disc Corporation four disc set (reviewed earlier on this page). There is no difference in audio or video quality as the same prints are used (still with the annoying company logo on the bottom right corner of the screen). Also, the packaging lacks the detailed episode information of the previous release.
By the way, do owners of this set notice that the box art features a picture of Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, and JULIET PROWSE? |
